Ellen Averett Obituary

Ellen Ritchie Averett

1940 - 2024

Salt Lake City, UT-In Loving Memory:

Ellen Ritchie Averett, 83 years old, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024 in Salt Lake City, Utah, from heart failure. Ellen was born on December 11, 1940 to Winslow Evans and Isabel Adams Evans in Ogden, Utah.

She graduated from Olympus High School in Salt Lake City, Utah and went on to study at Brigham Young University.

Ellen dedicated 30 years of her life to Union Pacific Railroad Employees Health Systems.

While married to Steve Walker, they had a beautiful daughter, Joni. They later divorced. She then married Verl C. Ritchie and they welcomed a bouncing baby boy, Scott. Ellen was a wonderful mother to her two children.

Although Ellen never had any grandchildren of her own, she showered her sister Judy's grandchildren with all the love and affection she would have given her own grandchildren. Those who ever received a decorated birthday card from Ellen could feel how much she loved them just by looking at the attention to detail.

Ellen pursued interests in calligraphy, needlepoint and gardening. She had a knack for classy attire and was always well dressed. Many dogs lived a life of luxury, with Ellen as their caretaker, especially her beloved dogs and companions til the end, Tibbs and Sophie.

Ellen was a hoot to be around. She was bubbly and energetic, sometimes overly honest, but always down for a good time and laughs. She had a beautiful smile that we will dearly miss.

Ellen loved conversation and enjoyed catching up with friends and family. One never had to worry about a moment of silence around her.

Ellen and Judy were born sisters but lived each day as best friends. They leaned on each other through the hard times and good times and created so many wonderful, lasting memories for their posterities. They were rarely seen apart and now they are reunited forever.

Ellen will be missed by her quick wit, intelligence, social nature and engaging personality.

She is survived by her daughter, Joni Walker Foley, SLC, UT, son, Scott (Lisa) Ritchie, Marathon, FL and her beloved dogs, Tibbs and Sophie.

A very special thank you to Ellen's wonderful and caring neighbors, James and JoAnn Greene, who took such tender care of Ellen over the years. She loved you both.

No formal memorial service will be held but in Ellen's memory, please live each day with love and compassion. It's the legacy she would have wanted.

So sorry to hear of Ellen´s passing. Even though it has been a year. Ellen was a genuine friend to me during the most difficult time in my life. She knitted a beautiful afghan for my baby girl, Which was 33 years ago. Currently, her little girl has it on her bed. Your mother was a pistol and I loved that she could also admire another woman with a strong personality. I miss having her and Neil for dinner and all the crazy laughter. Ellen loved her children deeply and her family. May Scott and Joni have comfort and love from above. With much love.
