Ellen Barnhart Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. on Oct. 8, 2024.
Ellen Devol Barnhart left this world to be with her savior on July 9, 2024. Ellen was born in Pittsburgh, raised in Hartford, Connecticut and as a teenager moved to Silver Spring, Maryland. There, as a member of Montgomery Blair High School she met the love of her life Robert Miller Barnhart (Bob).
Ellen graduated from Duke University as a nurse (BSN). She and Bob married and had three children, and after a stint in Bitburg, Germany, settled in Towson, Maryland in 1965. They joined Towson Presbyterian Church and grew to love their neighbors and church community. Ellen and Bob served faithfully at Towson Presbyterian and were also active members of MARVA Marriage Encounter. As the kids grew older, Ellen served as a home hospice nurse for Union Memorial for many years. After retiring from hospice, after the death of Bob, she went back to school and received her Nurse Practitioner degree focusing on Geriatric Medicine.
Ellen served as a geriatric nurse practitioner at Oakcrest Retirement Community and Charlestown Senior Living. She also enjoyed many years serving on her church's medical mission team in Honduras each spring, and she faithfully served many years at the Shepherd's Clinic on Kirk Avenue in Baltimore.
Ellen is survived by her daughter, Laura (Tony) Alberg of Columbia, South Carolina, Robert (Anette) Barnhart of Park City, Utah, and Donald (Jill) Barnhart of Houston, Texas. She will be greatly missed by them and her 7 loving grandchildren: Rob Barnhart, Al Barnhart, Kate Barnhart (Jake Hilton), Christian Alberg (Aisha Ghodbane) Ben Barnhart (Nikki Jaynes) Andrew Alberg, and Georgia Barnhart.
Ellen will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Shepherd's Clinic or Towson Presbyterian Church.
"Honor her for the all that her hands have done; And let her works bring her praise at the city gate" Proverbs 31:31
Funeral Service will be held at Towson Presbyterian Church, 400 W. Chesapeake Ave., Towson, MD 21204 on Saturday at 2:00 PM, Interment Bee Tree Cemetery
