Ellen D. Basoco Obituary
Ellen Basoco, affectionately known as Missy by her loved ones, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on July 22, 2025. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, she grew up there until graduating from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. A die-hard Cornhusker fan and a devoted member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, she was a proud supporter of her alma mater.
In addition to raising her two daughters, Susan and Jill, Ellen worked as a teacher and medical office manager in Tallahassee, Florida. However, her heart led her back to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she cared for her mother and aunt. When her granddaughter was born, Ellen became an integral part of her life, playing a vital role in raising her. In her later years, she moved around with her daughter Susan’s family, to New Mexico, Texas, and Colorado.
Ellen was an incredibly warm, thoughtful, and generous person. She had many friends that she kept up with her whole life. She was a very encouraging, selfless, and devoted mother who went above and beyond to provide her children with a loving upbringing and ensure they had the opportunity to pursue higher education. She was known for her wonderful smile, sense of humor, empathy, and positivity. She gave her love freely and will be fondly remembered by all that knew her.
Ellen is survived by her daughters Jill Harvey and Susan Johnston (Chris), and granddaughter Rylee. She also leaves behind her brother Robert and nephews Chris, Eric, Andrew, and Michael. Ellen was predeceased by her parents Miguel and Doris Basoco, her aunt Harriet Heumann, her brother Richard, and her nephew David.
Ellen cherished her role in all of their lives. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her devotion to family and friends, her joyful spirit, and her unwavering support for the Nebraska Cornhuskers - Go Big Red!
The family would like to thank the teams at Pathways Hospice and UCHealth for the exceptional care they provided Ellen during her final days.
Ellen will be laid to rest in Seward, Nebraska, alongside her beloved parents and many other dear relatives
