Ellen Decker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home - Summit on Feb. 4, 2026.
Ellen R Decker 89 of Springfield NJ passed away on 02/01/2026 at Overlook Hospital surrounded by her family. A beloved matriarch, devoted mother of five, and cherished grandmother of fifteen and great grandmother to 2

Funeral service will be held at St. Teresa of Avila on February 9, 2026, at 9:30 am. Visitation will be held at Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home on February 8, 2026, from 1:00 – 5:00 pm.

Ellen was born in Boston, Massachusetts to John and Ellen Regan on February 29,1936. Attended Our Lady of Good Counsel, she went on to earn her bachelor's degree in biology at Immaculata College in Immaculate Pennsylvania where she played basketball and field hockey all four years.

Ellen is survived by her 5 adoring children, William C Decker Jr (Noreen) of Tampa Florida, Beth Wohl (Russell) of Summit NJ, Scott Decker ( Megan) of Chatham, NJ, Christopher Decker ( Kelly)of Novato, Ca, Kelly Iacovelli (William) of Summit, NJ. , her 15 grandchildren, Morgan Daily, William Decker, Caroline Wohl, Robert Wohl, Christopher Wohl, Ryan Decker, Aidan Decker, Cullen Decker, Flynn Decker, Matthew Decker, Kyle Decker, Riley Decker, Abigail Iacovelli, Will Iacovelli and Timothy Iacovelli and her two great granddaughters Ariya Daily and Evie Daily and her many nieces and nephew. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Ellen Regan, and brothers, James, Thomas and, John Regan.

She then made Summit, New Jersey her home for many decades. As she was raising her family in Summit, she was active in all her children's sports activities as well as playing tennis and paddle at Beacon Hill Club. She later began a career in real estate which she enjoyed right up till her passing. She loved her time at her family's summer home in Scituate, Mass where we all spent long days on the beach with cousins and friends barefoot, sunburned and buying penny candy at Glavin's under the guise of getting her father the newspaper. Having 5 children in the span of 7 years she was efficient to say the least- she instilled in us the importance of family, loyalty and friendship. Where there was one Decker you would surely find another close by. She could be heard calling us in for dinner in a unique blend of all our names as if it was one- BillyBethScottChrisKelly.

She was an unstoppably positive cheerleader in the lives of all her children and grandchildren. She was an essential part of raising each of her grandchildren and great granddaughters. She was truly a force in the lives of all of us. She was able to dole out tough love and compliment you at the same time, so you were never quite sure which was which, a balance that is hard to find in this world. She had a quiet way of communicating as a parent and grandparent. She was always there, standing beside us, giving us the strength to do whatever it was we needed to do. She never missed a chance to cheer on her grandchildren; she could be found on the side of any field or court whenever they played, she was known to cheer the loudest and let you know exactly what she thought after the game, her way of keeping you humble.

She was an active volunteer with the Overlook Auxiliary, SHIP- Summit Helping It's People and St. Teresa where she was a CCD teacher.

We will all miss her and there will always be a seat on the bleachers for her.
