Ellen May Evans

Jan 08 1939 - Jan 27 2026 Jan 27 2026

Ellen May Evans, (87) passed away unexpectedly Tuesday January 27, 2026 in McKinney Texas. She was born in Topeka Kansas January 8, 1939 to Lloyd and Esther Johnson. Ellen grew up working on her family's farm in Wakarusa, Kansas where she was involved in 4H showing saddle bred horses and attended Berryton School.

She earned her college degree in home economics at Kansas State where she met her husband Wayne O. Evans. They were happily married for 58 years. Ellen and Wayne raised their family in Rochester, Minnesota. She was dedicated to numerous family, church and community activities. She was even known to have sewn the homecoming and prom dresses for the girls on homecoming and prom court at John Marshall High School.

Ellen and Wayne were world travelers many times over. She felt blessed for being able to experience countries and diverse cultures. In her later years, she traveled to Costa Rica where she experienced ziplining through the jungle and described it as "the thrill of a lifetime".

She cherished the annual tradition of attending YMCA Camp Olson family camp which encompassed four generations over 50 years of attendance. Her family brought her the greatest pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne O. Evans; parents, Lloyd and Esther Johnson; and sister, Leah Ralph. She is survived by her son, Neil Evans (Lori); daughter, Tracey Spence; son, Troy Evans (Stacey); and four grandchildren, Sydney, Grant, Cadence and Kendra.

Ellen and Wayne retired to Tucson Arizona, where Ellen volunteered at their community library and monthly coffee/donut social hour. She enjoyed baking, reading, being in contact with loved ones and maintaining her home. She recently moved to Texas to be closer to family. Those who wish to honor Ellen's memory may donate in her name to Tucson Estates Library. Funeral Services will be a private family event.
