In Loving Memory of Jane Ann Hancock
August 18, 1947 – January 27, 2026
Jane Ann (Rhodes) Hancock, a woman of profound kindness, gentle wisdom, and unwavering devotion, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, at the age of 78. A cherished resident of Denison and
McKinney, Texas, Jane leaves behind a legacy of grace that will be forever treasured by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A Life Rooted in Faith and Family
Jane's journey began on August 18, 1947, in
Parsons, Kansas, as the daughter of Harold Martin and Isabelle Rhodes. Growing up in Denison, she carried the foundational values of her upbringing into every chapter of her life. After graduating from Denison High School, Jane followed her calling to early childhood education at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. There, she earned her Master's degree, beginning a lifelong mission of serving and nurturing others.
On September 16, 1966, Jane married the love of her life, John D. Hancock. For fifty-nine years, their marriage stood as a beautiful testament to partnership, faith, and a deep-seated devotion. Together, they built a life centered on the quiet strength of family and the joy of shared purpose.
The Heart of the Home
Jane was the peacemaker, the encourager, and the steady hand that made everything better. She took great pride in creating a sanctuary for those she loved; her natural gift for decorating turned her house into a home where guests felt an immediate sense of calm and welcome.
A lifelong learner, Jane found constant inspiration in the pages of books. She was drawn to self-help and positive literature, always seeking to grow and become the best version of herself. Whether she was perusing magazines for art ideas or browsing for home inspiration, Jane had a unique eye for beauty and a soul-deep desire to share that light with those around her.
A Legacy of Service and Connection
Jane possessed a rare, pure heart. She was slow to judge and quick to offer the benefit of the doubt, holding a unique ability to connect with anyone she met. Even strangers were drawn to her warmth, often finding themselves in easy conversation with a woman who listened with her whole soul.
This gift for connection defined her professional life. For over 30 years, she shared her heart with the children of
McKinney, Texas, as a beloved teacher and counselor at Burks Elementary and Valley Creek Elementary. Later in life, Jane successfully transitioned her talents into a career as a Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams. There, she combined her eye for design with her inherent desire to help others, guiding families through life's milestones with the same grace and patience she once showed in the classroom.
Her Lasting Legacy
Jane's greatest pride was her family. She is survived by:
Her Husband: John D. Hancock of
Denison, TX.
Her Children: Ellen Reed and husband Jason of
McKinney, TX; David Hancock and wife Kandace of
Denison, TX.
Her Grandchildren: Luke Hancock, Levi Hancock, Jack Reed, and Max Reed-four young men who were the lights of her life and her absolute joy.
Her Siblings: Brother Marty Rhodes of Broken Arrow, OK, and sister Anita Shrigley of Lafayette, CA.
Jane is now resting in the arms of the Lord, reunited in peace with her parents and her infant son, Stephen Craig Hancock.
