Ellen Sue (Calvert) Hickey
76, of Leon, West Virginia, formerly of West Alexandria, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, love, and laughter on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
Ellen was born September 26, 1949, in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky to George W. Sr. and Lucille (Hamilton) Calvert.
Ellen danced through life with a beautiful smile and an adventurous spirit. She was full of energy, curiosity and light. She loved her family deeply and carried that love into everything she did.
Being a Granny was one of her greatest joys. Affectionately known as “The Baby Whisperer” and a big kid herself, she treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren.
Ellen also found great happiness and peace in nature. She loved exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains - on the back of a motorcycle, hiking, camping, and taking trips to Staunton. When she wasn’t adventuring in the mountains, she tended to her herb and rose garden and watched her birds from the porch swing.
She never missed a chance to dance, loved to sing, practice yoga, and search for rocks to add to her collection.
No matter what she was doing, Ellen found joy in every moment and had a special way of inviting you in to enjoy the moment with her.
Her smile was contagious and the warmth and light she brought to the world will always be remembered by those lucky enough to have known her.

Ellen was preceded in death by her Daddy, George and son-in-law, Todd Weatherhead.
She is survived by her Mother, Lucille; husband of 34+ years, Jack Hickey; children, Shannon (Travis) Wright, Karla (Josh Joner) Antrim, Lori Weatherhead, Dani (Mark) Lindloff, Megan (Gabe) Bogue, Ben Hickey, and Katie (Kenny) Woyer; grandchildren, Quentin Wright, Brett (Amanda) Joner, Ethan (Caylin) Joner, Audrey Joner, Riley Joner, Paige Weatherhead, Aidan Weatherhead, Kenli Lindloff, Logan Lindloff, Makenzi Johnson, Adi (Casey Cuozzo) Johnson, Aubri Johnson, Addyson Bogue, and Abram Bogue; great grandchild, Korbyn Wright; 5 siblings and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 10 from 11AM to 1PM at PREBLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL CENTER, West Alexandria. Following the visitation, Ellen will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ellen’s memory may be made to Community Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, Kentucky 41101.
