Annette Burgess Hicks departed with grace from this life on February 22, 2026. She joined her Heavenly Father and the souls of many family members and loved ones. Annette leaves behind the legacy of a large family who feel a tremendous loss and sadness with her passing, but who are greatly thankful to have shared her long, full, and happy life. We have all learned the values of family, faith, and resilience from her and are humbled by the lifetime of love and joy she gave us all. Annette was a wonderful and fiercely loyal Mom. Her children always came first.
Annette was born June 3, 1936, in
Hagerman, New Mexico, to Jorsey Williams Burgess and Julian L. Burgess. She was the youngest of five children. She met the love of her life, Clifford Dale Hicks, in Comanche, Texas. It was love at first sight. They were married in Stephenville, Texas, March 29, 1952. Dale and Annette had four children, Vickie, Glenn, Gary, and Felecia; all were born in Fort Worth, Texas. Dale worked for Montgomery Wards and was transferred to Alexandria, Louisiana, in 1966. Mom enjoyed her church and friends in Louisiana, but was a true "Texas girl" at heart. Dale often referred to Annette as his "Yellow Rose of Texas." They were married for fifty-seven years.
Annette and Dale were members of Pinehurst Baptist Church for fifty-one years. She enjoyed her church community and service. After her children left home she enjoyed working for Sears, Eckerd's, and Marinell's Hallmark.
Annette was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; their son, Gary; and grandson, Sgt. Glenn Dale Hicks, Jr.
She is survived by three loving children, Vickie Wheeler of Marietta, Georgia, Glenn D. Hicks, Sr. of Arlington, Texas, and Felecia Hicks of Alexandria; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
A time of visitation will be held at Rush Funeral Home, Pineville, on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume in the Chapel of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville, on Friday, February, 27, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
Mom, we love you more than any words can say. Your love will guide us through the days ahead, and your memory will be in our hearts forever, "Our Yellow Rose of Texas."
