Ellen Johnson Obituary
August 3, 1938 - May 10, 2025
Ellen L. Johnson, 86, of Camp Douglas, died suddenly Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the University Hospital in Madison.
She was born on August 3, 1938, to Irvin and Leah (Boyd) Schmitt. She was a member of the Gilman High School Class of 1956. After graduating high school, Ellen attended teachers' college in Medford and taught for a few years at Tarr Valley. On March 15, 1958, Ellen was united in marriage to Reuben Johnson at The Little Brown Church in Iowa. After raising her family, Ellen worked at Freudenberg Sealing Technologies.
She enjoyed reading, embroidery, crossword puzzles, baking, and cheering for the Milwaukee Brewers with her sidekick, Charley, on her lap. Ellen's specialty baking was desserts; her bars and cookies were family favorites. She enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their school events and sports. It always brought joy to her life and she loved every minute of the time spent with them.
She is survived by four children, Pam (special friend Larry Southworth) Johnson of Tomah, Lon (Diane) Johnson of Camp Douglas, Cheryl (special friend Brian Bowden) of Pittsville, and Christine (Keith) Hanson of Kendall; seven grandchildren, Sara (Kyle) McKittrick and Kyle Niebuhr, Corey Johnson and Daniel Johnson, Steven (Jamie) Bennett, Kaleena (Jeff) Ready and Katie (Dillon) Polodna; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Ellie, and Henry, Cyrus and Arya, Wyatt and Charlee, Nevaeh and Jayden, Aubrey, Kinsley and Hoyt, Emersyn, Chanel, Case, Kyellen, and Brayden; a sister, Louise Rice; sister-in-law, Marion Johnson; nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Reuben; brother, Fred Schmitt; along with several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in the Camp Douglas Cemetery.
