Ellen Lindgren Obituary

Ellen Mable (Lowe) Lindgren was born August 25th, 1949 to W.G. "Bud" and Mable Lowe in Bozeman, Montana. Ellen was the baby of the family and always claimed she was "mom's favorite."

After second grade, moved to Chico, then to Albany, OR, where Ellen attended Liberty Elementary and Memorial Middle school, before returning to Bozeman for her high school years, graduating from BSHS in 1967. Ellen attended Montana State University, but decided to leave before she was kicked out.

Ellen was living in Anaconda, MT when her two boys were born. She moved from there back to Albany in 1979.

In the same week in August 1979, Ellen's divorce was final, she turned 30, and was she hired by Ralph Younce to work at Fir Grove Elementary School in the Albany School District. Two years later, she became the secretary at Fairmont Elementary, then went on to be the secretary in the Physical Plant, the Bus Garage, and Human Resources. After 31 years, Ellen retired from Greater Albany Public Schools, where she says she was honored to have worked.

Over the years, Ellen made some very dear friends of staff and administrators in the district, who she always enjoyed seeing well after her retirement.

Ellen leaves behind her significant other of 38 years, Garry Poe and their dog, Chet. Two sons, Chris (Megan), and Scott (Lisa), her two beautiful granddaughters, Everly and Pascale Lindgren, whom she loved "more than cookies," brother Glenn Lowe (Donna), sisters Phyllis Richards (Jim) and Romayne Kareen (Mike), nephew Patrick Richards, nieces Carrie Richards, Erika Dean (Paul), and Kristan Weller (Scott.) And five great-nieces and nephews, Caroline Richards, Mike Richards, Wilson Dean, Ava Dean, and Mae Weller.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Mable Lowe, very dear friend Dorthy Trotter, and Garry's son, Todd Poe.

Over the years, Ellen enjoyed bowling, golf, crocheting - making approximately 30 afghans for every family member and close friends, traveling with Garry, gardening, and later learning how to cross-stitch with her sister Phyllis as her teacher. She says the best thing that ever happened to her was becoming a grandma. And she was also the very best aunt in the world.

A celebration of life will be held at the Albany Eagles club, a place Ellen and Garry enjoyed on many occasions, on Saturday, March 23 beginning at 1:00pm.

Contributions can be made to the Albany Meals on Wheels program or the Safe Haven Animal Shelter in Albany.

Garry, Chris, Scott, Phyllis, and families,
Sherry and I are heartbroken to hear of Ellen's passing.
We first met and worked together when she transferred to
GAPS Physical Plant. Then in her years at the
Bus Garage and Human Resources we became lifelong
friends. Everyone she worked with will tell you how she truly
added to the workplace like no one else did. She didn't just
do a great job at each place; she truly knew each co-worker
and cared about them. She was a true advocate for our
school district and for giving kids the best experience of their
school years that we could give them.
Sherry and I really enjoyed Ellen! Her sense of humor, her
wonderful laugh, her caring about others, and her love for life and
her family. Our "GAPS" get togethers through the years are
great catch-ups among friends and Ellen always shared about
the latest in her family's lives and added laughs where warranted!
We miss her; but, we were blessed to have had these years of
Ellen in our lives.
We will not be able to attend her service; but, will have her in our thoughts.

Ellen and I grew up in Sunday School at Faith Lutheran Church. We were confirmed in the same class. We did not see each other often but could always visit like it was yesterday. Loved her bright smile and here bubbly personality.

Phyllis and family - I just learned of Ellen's passing and it truly grieves my heart. I loved working with her during my years with the school district. I was immediately drawn to her warm and charming personality. When I would occasionally see her, she would have that same lovely smile and the softness in her voice. She was blessed with a loving family and friends that adored her. Without doubt, she is an angel today! With my thoughts and prayers, Carol Hawke
