Ellen Mohr

Ellen Mohr, 99, of Mahwah, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025. She was born on February 1, 1926, in Jersey City to Henry and Angele Coffey and was predeceased by her siblings Marguerite, Michael, and Mary Ann. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Diane) of Maywood, NJ, and Bruce (Victoria & sons Derrik and Andy) of Sloatsburg, NY, and her granddaughter, Julia of Maywood, NJ.

A graduate of Upsala College with a master's degree from William Paterson College, Ellen was a devoted educator. She taught elementary and middle school students for nearly thirty years, retiring from Sloatsburg Elementary School in Sloatsburg, NY.

Ellen gave generously to good causes throughout her life and had a deep love for animals. She enjoyed travel, reading, culture, and politics. She was musically talented and, in her younger years, played accordion in a popular trio. She later played the piano in the classroom for her younger students.

A memorial service will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, NJ, on Saturday, September 27, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. (RBARI) in Oakland, NJ. Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
