Ellen Rhodes Obituary

Ellen Rhodes, 74, passed away peacefully at her home on October 6, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in 1951 to the late Philip Boykin Sr. and Elisabeth Boykin, the family moved to the Tidewater area of Virginia, where she spent most of her life.

Ellen had a lifelong love of the game of football, particularly as a die-hard fan of the Washington Redskins. She spent countless hours on many youth football fields watching her four boys grow up on the gridiron. She never missed a single practice or game for almost 20 years. Ellen loved spending time with her family and friends, never missing an opportunity to throw a party or random family get-together. She loved being surrounded by people who loved her, but she held a special place in her heart for the children that were lucky enough to call her "Grandma".

Ellen was preceded in death by two husbands, Daniel Hobbes and James Rhodes; her aforementioned parents; her brother, Flip Boykin and her sister, Mimsi Kliment. She is survived by her brother, Ted Boykin (Louise); her sister, Betsy Zellers (Steve); her sons, Daniel Rhodes (Laura), Brian Rhodes (Jennifer), Doug Rhodes, and Charlie Rhodes (Sandy); many nieces, nephews and her beloved grandchildren.

A special thank you to her companion Jay Marlar for giving Elle the twinkle in her eyes the last two years.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown, VA. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any charity of your choice in her memory. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
