Robert Michael "Bob" Chittenden

Robert Michael Chittenden, 81, passed away on September 26, 2025 at home. He was born in Wichita, KS, the only child of Helen Hutchinson Chittenden and Herbert Markey Chittenden.

As a young child, he spent several years in Salzburg, Austria, where his father was stationed with the U.S. Army and later spent several years in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He lived in Topeka, KS, from Jr. High School until graduation from Washburn Rural High School. After being drafted into the U.S. Army, Bob entered Officer Candidate School at Fort Eustis, VA, where he received his commission. He was stationed at Fort Riley, KS, serving there until leaving the U.S. Army.

Bob earned a Business Degree from the College of Hampton Roads and worked as director, then as Administrative Director of Coastal Business Colleges. He later earned his Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration at Upper Iowa University. He worked in Employee Relations at Newport News Shipbuilding until his retirement.

Bob enjoyed spending time at home, sitting around with his friends in the afternoon, driving his sports cars, traveling and dressing up for Halloween.

Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Chittenden; his son, Edward Chittenden; two granddaughters, Naomi Broaddrick (John) and Shawnee Lee (Dustin); his great-grandchildren, Finn and Scotlyn Broaddrick and Gideon and Jackson Lee and his nieces, Kimberly Kozenski (Scott) and Leslie Andersen (John), Emma Kate, Amelia and Anabel Kozenski and Barrett Andersen.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Weymouth Funeral Home with a reception to follow.
