Ellis Loyd English

Ellis "Loyd" English, 78 of Stigler was born December 9th, 1946 to Elbert Daniel "Bud" English and Zell Opal (Parker) English and passed away March 11th, 2025 in Stigler. He was born in Stigler, Oklahoma where he grew up and graduated with the class of 1965. He married the love of his life Joyce Ann (Harp) English on July 22nd, 1965 and together they made their home in Stigler where they raised their three children. He loved traveling, camping, and spending time making memories with his grandkids. He will always be remembered as the best Papa ever. He loved old Gospel songs and enjoyed playing the guitar, dobro, and mandolin. He even made some solid attempts with the harmonica and piano with one of his favorite songs being The Great Speckled Bird. His favorite hobbies always involved vintage and antique cars with Chevrolets from the 1950's being his favorites. He loved buying, selling, trading, and restoring them. He loved attending car shows and entering his favorites and took home a few trophies that he was so proud of. He loved to socialize and had a large circle of friends with many passing on before him. He will be remembered by those who knew him for his outgoing personality, sense of humor and quick wit. He worked various jobs during his younger life and afterwards worked as a carpenter for many years up until his retirement. He was a member of Stigler First Assembly of God Church for many years. He leaves behind a legacy that is unmatched.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Joyce Ann (Harp) English; his son, James English and wife Janet; his daughters, Shannon Basden and husband Doug, Ellen Mattison and husband Mark, a nephew he considered his son, Ronnie Wilkerson; his grandchildren include Keith English and wife Dana, Todd Smith and wife Tara, Amber Hendershot and husband Luke, Brooke Mattison, Morgan Whitson and husband Matt, Megan Copeland, Jason Basden and wife Jessalyn; his great grandchildren include Jamey, Sierra, Loyd, Emry, Jencen, Ellis, Jace, Beau, Mason, Jaxon, Gavin, Creed and Spencer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elbert "Bud" and Zell English; his brother, Doyle English; two sisters, Leoda McClure and Della Wilkerson.
Funeral services to honor his life will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 14, 2025 at Stigler First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Jason Smith officiating. The eulogy will be presented by Reverend Bobby Smith. Pallbearers will include James English, Mark Mattison, Doug Basden, Keith English, Todd Smith and Ronnie Wilkerson. Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Hendershot, Amber Hendershot and Brook Mattison. Burial will follow at Sans Bois Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
