Ellis Jerome VanderPloeg, 94, of Bridgman passed away on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, at Hanson Hospice Center, Stevensville.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, at Pike Funeral and Cremation Services, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman, MI 49106, with the Rev. Jim Oakley, officiating. Friends may meet with the family from 10-11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home, prior to the service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085. Online condolences accepted at www.PikeFH.com.
Ellis was born on Oct. 6, 1929, in Hamilton, Mich., the son of the late William and Wilma (Wentzel) VanderPloeg.
On Aug. 6, 1957, he married Doris VanderZouwen and she preceded him in death in 2018.
Ellis was member at Woodland Shores Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from CSX Railroad as a bridge tender and for many years was the clerk at the Bridgman Depot.
Survivors include his children: Douglas VanderPloeg, Keith VanderPloeg, Phyliss VanderPloeg, Jon VanderPloeg, Myra (Fritz) Dornan; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ellis was also preceded in death by his siblings: Joan, Elma, Lyle and Donna Mae.
Arrangements are entrusted to Pike Funeral and Cremation Services, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman.
