Elmer Louis Ayers

Elmer Louis Ayers of Crossroads, Arkansas, died Sunday, June 25, 2023, at the age of 84. He was born on November 4, 1938 at his home in the Morris Ferry Community in Little River County, Arkansas to the late Roy Samuel Ayers and Pauline Klitz Ayers. On November 20, 1971, he married Joy Ann Tong. Elmer was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many.
After graduating from Horatio High School in Horatio, AR in 1957, he joined the National Guard of Arkansas in which he served as Specialist 3rd Class, Heavy Mortar Co, 153rd Infantry. He was Honorably Discharged on November 20, 1958. He was a member of Rocky Comfort Masonic Lodge #468 and was recognized for his 50 years of faithful service to the Grand Lodge of Arkansas on June 9, 2021. He served on the Little River County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for over 20 years and was a longtime member of the Little River Cattleman's Association.
He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Crossroads for many years. He enjoyed serving his church family and community. His faith and family were of the utmost importance to him. He was a master carpenter. He owned and operated a poultry and cattle farm for over 30 years.
Elmer was preceded in death by a brother, a son-in-law and a brother-in-law.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years, Joy Ayers; daughters: Dena Williams (Kevin), Lana Gilbert (Jimmy), Sheila Jackson, Beverly Bell (Chuck), Mary Sue Horn (Jim), Penny Morton, Sherri Selman (Brad); son: Mike Morton (Pam); 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; 1 sister and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Elmer will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at First Southern Baptist Church of Crossroads with Bro. Gerald Wagstaff officiating. Interment will follow at Alleene Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen, AR. His son and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers: Kevin Williams, Jimmy Gilbert, Mike Morton, Chuck Bell, Jim Horn, and Brad Selman.
