Elmer Gilbert

CONTINENTAL - Elmer Gilbert, 70, of Continental, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born January 7, 1955, in Carter County, Kentucky, to the late William Ernest and Lula (Dean) Gilbert. On March 31, 1978, he married Julie Hull, who survives in Continental.

He is also survived by a daughter, Elissa (Andy) Deeds of Defiance; two granddaughters: Kaytlin and Lilian Kirkland; four siblings: Noma Lawhorn of Cloverdale, Vernon Gilbert of Kentucky, Homer Gilbert of Defiance, and Gerline Mays of Dupont.

He was preceded in death by a son Elmer "Dean" Gilbert; and siblings: Elwood Gilbert, Elmo Gilbert, Woodrow Gilbert, Ernest Gilbert Jr., Elevyn Sparks, Onia Gehring, Delmer Gilbert, and Richard Gilbert. Elmer retired from Campbell Soup in 2014 after working 38 years. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and loved to be funny by making up his own songs. Elmer had a knack for telling jokes that always brought smiles. He loved to make people laugh. He had a special fondness for his hot rods and browsing flea markets. Elmer attended Mandale Church of Christ in Christian Union. Above all, he loved his family greatly, especially his granddaughters.

Funeral services will begin 12 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025, at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Pastor Tony Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Dupont. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday and 10 to 12 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
