Elmer Hoff age 102, of Gorham, Kansas passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Via Christi Village, Hays, Kansas. He was born December 18, 1922, on the family farm south east of Emmeram, Kansas to Edward Emil and Anna (Geist) Hoff. He married Evelyn (Eberle) on November 29, 1950, at Hays, Kansas. She preceded him in death on May 26, 1998.
Elmer was a farmer, stockman, and grew up on the farm five miles north of Gorham. He attended the Union Country School, was a U S Navy veteran, and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church Gorham, Kansas.
Elmer was very proud of his time in service during WWII he was a tail gunner on the merchant ship SS Colby Victory. He was in the Atlantic and the Pacific with the rank of Seaman First Class. Elmer was very devoted to his wife, Evelyn, and they worked side by side on the farm.
Elmer is survived by his niece, Shirley Brungardt, Russell, KS; his great nephew, Randy Brungardt, Las Vegas, NV; and other relatives.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Edward E. and Anna Hoff; his in-law’s, Joe and Catherine (Hertel) Eberle; his brothers, Emil Hoff and Ralph Hoff; his sisters, Leona Buchann; Gertrude Bieker; Mildred Dechant; and his infant sister, Sophie Hoff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 24, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1805 Vine Street, Hays, Kansas with celebrant, Father Nick Parker.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Gorham, Kansas with Military Honors by the Victoria V.F.W. Post # 1751.
A Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Sunday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Monday, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
The family suggests memorials made payable to: St Mary Church, Gorham, Kansas or Hospice of Hays Medical Center in care of Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
