Elmer Joseph Wolsfeld, 65, of Durand, passed away suddenly at home on November 18, 2025.
Born on January 7, 1960, in Ottawa, Illinois, to Cleo and Elmer Wolsfeld, Elmer entered the world making history-he was the biggest baby ever born at the hospital, a distinction that earned him the lifelong nickname "Champ."
Elmer graduated from Hall High School in Spring Valley, Illinois, in 1978. He was a gifted singer and proudly held lead roles in two of the school's musicals, memories he cherished throughout his life. Following college, Elmer proudly served his country in the US Navy.
On February 23, 1990, Elmer married the love of his life, Candyce Marland, in Spring Valley. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and community service.
Elmer had a servant's heart and devoted countless hours to helping others. He volunteered with Project Success of Eastern Bureau County, the Hall Township Food Pantry, Echo Bluff Park, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, he trained as an EMT, the Durand Chamber of Commerce Foundation, and truly any organization where Candyce was working or lending a hand. If Candyce was there, Elmer was there-giving his time, his support, and his whole heart.
Above all, Elmer was a dedicated family man. His favorite title was "Papa," and he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were, without question, the greatest joys of his life.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Candyce; his children Brandy (David) Delvallee of Zeeland, Sarah (Jim) Ott of Chatham, Illinois, Michael Wolsfeld of Durand, and his "son-in-love," Kevin Jordan. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Trevor, Tesah (Justin), Cade (Noa), Aria, Rachael, Milo, and Austin; and his great-grandchildren Elena, Aiden, Liam, and Iris. He is also survived by his sister, Susan (Kevin) of Raleigh, North Carolina; one niece, Lily; and his "brother-in-love," Charles (Bobbi) Van Schaick of Spring Valley, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved father-in-law, Sidney Marland.
A memorial service will be held on December 13, 2025, 11:00 AM at Watkins Funeral Home in Durand, with fellowship immediately following at the Durand VFW. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
