Eloise McWatters Obituary

Boerne - Eloise Boss-McWatters, 96, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, entered her eternal rest on November 13, 2024, in Boerne, Texas. Born on November 9, 1928, in Ben Franklin, Texas, Eloise was the cherished daughter of Thomas O. and Minnie Lee Boss.

A devoted student, Eloise pursued her education at East Texas State Teacher's College, where she earned her B.S. degree. It was there that she met her husband, Charles (Mac) McWatters. Their union was marked by a shared commitment to education and faith, and they began their teaching careers in Rio Grande City, Texas.

In 1951, Eloise and Mac moved to San Isidro, Texas, where they built a life centered on family and community. Mac served as the San Isidro School Superintendent for 28 years, while Eloise passionately dedicated herself to teaching, earning her master's degree and raising their four daughters. After retiring in 1979, the couple relocated to Zapata, Texas, where they became active members of the Zapata Church of Christ. Eloise spent countless hours teaching Bible classes, organizing Vacation Bible School, volunteering with the local Chamber of Commerce and fishing.

In 2001, Eloise and Mac settled in Boerne, Texas, where they joined the Boerne Church of Christ. Eloise's life was defined by her devotion to God and her family. She found joy in nurturing her garden, playing dominoes with friends, cheering on the San Antonio Spurs, and sharing her love of reading with her grandchildren through frequent trips to the library.

Eloise was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (Mac); her parents; her brother, James Thomas Boss; sister-in-law, Judy Boss; and all of Mac's eight siblings. She is survived by her four daughters, Linda Flores, Philda Boswell, Charlene Gubernator (husband Kyle), and Darlene Kilpatrick (husband Peter); nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of dear friends and relatives.

Though she is no longer with us, Eloise's legacy of love, kindness, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A private family memorial service will be held in June in Kaufman, Texas, where Eloise and Mac's ashes will be laid to rest together.

Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home, Boerne, Texas.

Aunt Eloise will be missed so much. She is the last of our Aunts and was such a beautiful example to all of us who remain. She and Floyd were Christians and always displayed their Christianity in their home and everyday lives. They were both loved and respected among all who knew them. Love all of you so much. So very sorry to hear of Mrs. McWatters passing. She and her family have contributed greatly to South Texas. She leaves a wonderful legacy in those she taught and her family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all.

Fond memories of Mrs. Mac and my mom as teachers at school. She was such a beautiful lady- soft spoken, but a teacher that commanded her students with just a look. We were blessed to have the McWatters family in San Isidro and they had a profound effect on those that knew them. They will always have a special place in my heart. She will be missed, but the memories are forever.

Aunt Eloise was always refined, reserved and beloved! The pillar of the family and champion of our genealogy ! Always a joy to visit and feel her concern for the whole family! I admired her faith and her convictions! She is home with the Lord! We miss her!

I feel fortunate to have had Aunt Eloise in my life - as I do all of her family. She was an intelligent, kind and giving person who was always a joy and will be truly missed.

Our condolences to the family of Eloise, so sorry for the loss of your loved one. We lived in the same little community in San Isidro where people worked together, and knew the neighbors. Eloise lived a very long life , and she had a wonderful family. Again remembering her and her family. Wonderful neighbors for 10 yrs or so.
