Stella Eloise Cappel Hollis
Amory - Stella Eloise Cappel Hollis was born on May 21, 1931, to Jack Thompson Cappel and Alma Cortrecht Cappel in Alexandria, Louisiana and died on August 7, 2025 in Amory, Mississippi.
Eloise “Weesie” graduated from Bolton High School in Alexandria, Louisiana and furthered her education at Sophie Newcomb Memorial College in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Weesie married Richard Shelton “Pete” Hollis on June 5th, 1952, and together they had three wonderful sons. Weesie loved the outdoors and she enjoyed riding and showing horses throughout the Southeast. Weesie spent many weekends with their three young boys and many of their friends trailering a ski boat to Pickwick Lake so that the boys could water ski. Later in life, she enjoyed the comfort of captaining her own houseboats.
For years, Weesie designed and completed many elaborate needlepoint projects, including the alter chairs for Amory First Methodist Church. She loved the Lord and was a longtime member of Amory First Methodist Church. For many years, she and her husband graciously hosted a wonderful annual Easter Egg Hunt at their home and it was always a great time of fellowship, a celebration of spring and Christ’s risen victory. Weesie was an accomplished bridge player, pianist, and was an excellent marksman that could outshoot her husband and all three sons whenever challenged to a contest. Weesie’s love for gardening brought much joy to her and to so many others.
Weesie was a petite, soft spoken, and gracious Southern lady, who will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have known her.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Shelton Hollis (Jeanne), Peter Randolph “Randy” Hollis (Margie), Paul Cappel Hollis (Laura); seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Shelton Hollis, MD; her sister, Martha Cappel; and her brother, Jack Thompson Cappel, Jr.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Amory First Methodist Church with Reverend Wesley Pepper and Reverend Joe Brennan officiating. Burial will follow in Amory Historical Society Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday at the church, from 12:30 pm until the service hour at 2:00 pm.
