Elsie Massey Davis (Memaw), 82, of Alexander, North Carolina, made her heavenly ascent on April 10, 2024. Born on September 1, 1941, she lived in Buncombe County all her life. She was a member of the Alexander Baptist Church and loved her church family.
Elsie cared deeply for her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her spare time, she loved to make angels, and made sure she created one for each of her neighbors for Christmas. She also liked to sit outside on her deck in the summertime and talk to friends and neighbors.
She was the daughter of the late Ottis C. and Lovada Buckner Massey. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Lewis Davis; granddaughter, Tania Shepherd; brothers, Fletcher, J.C., Harrison, Spencer, Joseph “Ott”, and George “Cotton” Massey; sisters, Marie Rice, Clara Gaddy, Roxie Lister, and Lucy Rice.
Left to cherish her memory are her Daughters, Sheri Borders (Jim) of Cornelius and Marilyn Barry of Alexander; grandchildren, Johnathan Shepherd, J.R. Borders, and Taylor Husted (Josh); great grandchildren, Riley Lockridge, Bryson Shepherd, Dennis Shepherd and Jackson Shepherd; sister, Judy Russell (Bobby); sisters-in-law, Betty Massey, Clara Boone (Larry Davis), Christine Rivers (Charles), and Betty Silvers; brother in law, Gary Davis (Margaret); bonus daughter, Bridget King; and many nieces and nephews that she communicated with on a daily basis.
Funeral services for Elsie will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home. Reverends Gerald Sprinkle and Jeff Massey will officiate. Burial will follow at the Mount Sheba Baptist Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Givens Estate and Mission Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion shown to Elsie and her family.
