Elsie Hindelang Obituary
Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette, LA on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 10:00 am until the time of service.
A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 1:30 pm at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette.
Interment will follow Monday, May 12, 2025, at 10:00 am, in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna, LA.
Father David Furka, of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, in Lafayette, will officiate.
Elsie Harris Hindelang, was born November 17, 1930, in Gretna, LA and was a lifelong resident of Gretna. She graduated from the former St. Mary of the Pines Academy in Chatawa, MS. After high school, Elsie attended Loyola University New Orleans and graduated with a Doctorate degree in Pharmacy.
She was active in her community and was a member of Westbank ARC, Timberlane Garden Club, Louisiana Optical Society and German-American Cultural Center in Gretna.
She will be deeply missed by her devoted daughter, Donna H. Melancon, son-in-law, Mark A. Melancon, Sr., and grandson, Mark Adams Melancon, Jr., of Lafayette; her granddaughters and their families, Ashley C. Rihner and her husband, David Rihner, of Suwanee, GA and their sons, Peyton, William, Ian, and Christian and Meagan McClure and her husband, Matthew McClure and their children Emily, Connor and Nathan.
Elsie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Dr. Alvin Frank Hindelang; her parents, William Alfred and Angeline White Harris; her daughter, Cheryl Adele H. Chatelain; her son, David Harris Hindelang and her brother, Dr. Clyde A. Harris.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Troy Guidry and Leading Home Care for their dedication and compassion over the years.
In lieu of flowers, Mass intentions may be made in Elsie's name.
