Elsie Marie Smith Thacker, 86, of Carlisle, died Sunday, April 6, 2025 at Forest Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Falmouth, VA, she was the daughter of the late Rex and Margaret (Payne) Smith.
Elsie worked for over 20 years at Fort Monroe, VA for the Army ROTC as a statistical analyst. She helped develop the ROTC program used in schools, which included her traveling to schools stateside.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. She was an avid reader and would read everything she got her hands on. Elsie was a people person and loved talking to anybody and everybody. She never met an animal she did not love.
Survivors include her children: Tonya S. Daugherty, of Carlisle, Deborah L. Hood (John), of NC, Christopher M. Thacker (Brandee), of OH, Gigi M. Hogue (Robert), of VA, Tina M. Hadley (David), of MA; 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and her sisters: Betty Pitts, of FL and Margaret Ellington, of VA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter: Tisha M. Sparrow and her sisters: Daisy Gallant and Doris Resio.
Services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
