Elsie Mae Wessells, formerly of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2024 near Myrtle Beach, SC. She was born December 27, 1935 in Peekskill, NY, the eldest child of Reginald and Elsie (Dyckman) Brown. On April 21, 1957, she married the love of her life, Howard D. Wessells, and they spent 61 very happy years together before his death on August 9, 2018.
In addition to raising three sons, Elsie worked for over twenty years as a nurse, having obtained her LPN in 1976. She was last employed at the Cortlandt Nursing Home and Marrs Nursing Home. She and Howard made their home in Peekskill until 2001, when they relocated to Poughkeepsie. After her husband's death, Elsie moved to Myrtle Beach, SC to live with her son Howard Jr.
Besides her husband, Elsie was predeceased in 1993 by her sister, Joeann Melzer. She is survived by her brother, Reginald D. Brown; sons James, Howard Jr. and Richard; ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Reposing Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 11:00-1:00 PM at the O'Mara & Carpentieri Funeral Home. A graveside service and Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Wounded Warrior Project, PO BOX 758516, Topeka, KS 66675; https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
