Elton Grant “E. G.” Bird, Jr.,89, a dedicated individual whose life was filled with passion for family and community, passed away on November 5, 2025, at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia in Tifton, Georgia. Born on January 24, 1936, in Charleston, West Virginia, E. G. lived a rich life marked by deep connections to his loved ones and friends.
E. G. served as the Assistant Golf Course Manager at Springhill Country Club in Tifton, Georgia, where he shared his love for golf with those in the community. His professional journey was complemented by an education that began with his high school graduation followed by the pursuit of an associate degree. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Beyond his career, E. G. was a man of considerable hobbies and interests. He cherished the game of golf, relished fishing at Keaton, and held a deep affection for UGA football and all sports. His vibrant spirit was evident through his love of dancing, where he often showcased his talents, bringing joy to gatherings with friends and family alike. E. G. particularly delighted in his wife's cooking, appreciating the warmth and love that came with every meal shared together.
E. G. is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-nine years, Martha “Pete” Daniels Bird, and his children, Samantha and Albert Lechner, as well as David Van and Amber Bird. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Isabella Groene and Sophia Groene, and as a great-grandfather to Josiah Marshall and Laylanni Marshall. Each relationship in E. G. 's life was a cornerstone of his joy and strength, reflecting his profound commitment to family. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elton Grant Bird, Sr., and his mother, Mary Elizabeth Bird.
As we remember Elton Grant “E. G.” Bird, Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by dedication to family, community, and the joys that made life special. He will be remembered not only for his achievements but also for the warmth he spread and the love he shared. His legacy will endure in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
No formal services will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Tift Area, PO Box 747, Tifton, Ga. 31793.
