John Denton Dumas, aka Johnny, 86, born on June 4, 1939, in Tift County, Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, at Legacy Village Assisted Living Center in Tifton, Georgia.
A proud graduate of Tifton High School, John devoted over thirty years to a successful career as a semi feeder truck driver for UPS, a profession that saw him travel widely and form lasting connections with colleagues. He will be remembered not only for his unwavering work ethic but also for his kindness and generosity.
A veteran of the United States Army, John embodied the spirit of service and dedication throughout his life. Following his retirement from UPS, he found great joy living on the farm, where he embraced the simple pleasures that rural life offered. John was deeply connected to his land, taking immense pride in gardening, maintaining his yard, and finding peace while fishing and feeding his fish. One of his favorite pastimes included gathering with friends at Excelsior Grocery, where he relished the camaraderie shared among the "old guys." John was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kelltown.
Survivors include his sister, LaVerne Dumas Branch of Chula; his nephews and their wives, Gary and Janna Branch, and Bennie and Dina Branch; as well as several great nephews and great nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Edmund Hansford Dumas; his mother, Eleanor Marie Marchant Dumas; and his brother-in-law, Gerald Branch.
A graveside service will be held in his honor on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Oak Ridge Cemetery with Mr. Bennie Branch officiating. Military honors will be rendered. The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside.
