Elton Murray

MURRAY, Elton L. "Junior," 82, of Chesterfield, Va., died on Monday, January 17, 2011. Born in Henderson, N.C. and a lifelong resident of the Petersburg area, he was the son of the late Elton L. Sr. and Viola Phillips Murray Ashby. Elton was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and a retired unit supervisor at Allied Chemical in Hopewell, with nearly 40 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Moose and T.P.A. Elton is survived by a daughter, Betsy M. Stafford (Barry) of Chesterfield; son, Dr. Philip A. Murray of Richmond; two sisters, Demsie A. Wells (Frank) of Church Road and Nell A. Collins (Clayton) of Carson; and numerous other family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (today) at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Road (Rt. 10), where services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday. Interment will follow at 12 noon in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Va. Please reassemble at the grave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 50, 6221 Newby's Bridge Road, Chesterfield, Va. 23832.
