Elva Ileen Roberts

Elva Ileen Roberts, 101, of Compton, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Hillcrest Home in Harrison.
She was born December 10, 1923, at Johnstown, New York, to Clarence Roselle and Lida Burdella Rector Campbell. During World War II, Elva proudly supported the war effort by working at Remington Arms, where she assembled airplane engines. She also took flying lessons with the intention of joining the Women's Air Corp. (WAC). It was there that she met the love of her life, Loring Tillson Roberts. Elva and Loring were married on August 4, 1945 at Athens, Pennsylvania.
Elva later worked for many years at the post office before retiring. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed watching Jeopardy! and working crossword puzzles. She was also an avid supporter of military-adjacent charities and took great pride in the letters and items she received expressing appreciation for her support. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband and best friend, Loring Roberts; one daughter, Alison Roberts; and one brother, Bernard Campbell.
She is survived by one daughter, Beverly (J.D.) Roberts, of Compton; three grandchildren, Paul (Annette) Bush, of Boise, Idaho, Michael Roberts, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Suzanne Roberts, of Ilion, New York; and a host of great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
There are no services planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Holt Memorial Chapel.
