Elvie Stein Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by VanderLaan Funeral Home - Hudsonville on Dec. 8, 2025.
Elvie "Butch" Caroll Stein Jr., born May 20, 1960, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Butch was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Tammy, and their children: Josh Stein, along with Josh's children Wyatt, Trenton, Nora, Ethel, and Lulu; and Jeremy and Hannah Stein, along with their daughters Kensie and Grace. He is also survived by his mother, Phylis Cameron, his mother in law, JoAnne Carpenter; his sisters Pam (John) Johnson, Debbie Villarreal, and Pat Landon; his brother Brian (Starr) Cameron; his brothers in law, Robert (Yvonne) Carpenter and Gary Carpenter; and his loyal dog, Shay. He was preceded in death by his father, Elvie Sr.; his brother, Micheal Stein; his brother-in-law, Dennis Landon; and his father in law, Lyle Carpenter.
Butch dedicated much of his professional life to Consumer's Energy, serving as a supervisor and spending most of his career at the Campbell plant, as well as time at the Craven plant in New Bern, North Carolina. He was highly respected by colleagues and known for his strong work ethic, leadership, and unwavering commitment.
Outside of work, Butch found joy in the meaningful moments of life. He loved summers at the cottage near Higgins Lake, where he made countless memories with his grandchildren, and he cherished winters spent in Florida with Tammy. Whether traveling together, watching his sons succeed in sports and in life, or relaxing by the water with family, Butch made the most of every moment.
Though he could be stubborn at times, those who loved him knew that beneath that tough exterior was a man who cared deeply for his family and friends. Butch's legacy lives on in the people he guided, supported, and loved. He will be remembered for his dedication, his steadfastness, and above all, his devotion to the family he cherished so dearly.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Michigan for their care and compassion.
