Elvya Lorene Kirk, a shining beacon of love and strength, was born on June 27, 1942, in Gene Autry, Oklahoma, to the late J.T. and Matilda (Johnson) Kirk, as the youngest of their eleven children. From an early age, Elvya exhibited an unwavering faith, accepting Christ at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, where her spiritual journey began. In her formative years, she contributed to the family farm, embodying the values of hard work and dedication that would define her life.

Elvya pursued her education in humble yet industrious settings, attending Lincoln Consolidated School before graduating from Berwyn High School in 1960, earning her the affectionate nickname of "Lil Bit." Following her high school graduation, she enrolled at Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma, which marked the beginning of her journey as a devoted mother upon the birth of her beloved daughter, Vickie Elaine Parks.

In pursuit of new opportunities, Elvya moved to Los Angeles, California, where she began a commendable 36-year career with the Los Angeles Unified School District, ultimately retiring after years of dedicated service to her community. A proud grandmother, she cherished the joyful arrival of her grandson, Aaron Givens, born on May 30, 1985, playing an essential role in his upbringing while showering him with love and guidance.

Throughout the mid-1960s, Elvya was a devoted member of Victory Baptist Church, under the nurturing leadership of Rev. A. A. Peters, remaining stalwart until his untimely passing. Later, she transitioned to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where she served as a faithful usher, and eventually rejoined Victory Baptist Church, where she remained an active participant under Pastor W. Edward Jenkins.

Elvya’s zest for life resonated through her love of travel and family gatherings, often making her way back to Oklahoma City to connect with her sisters and relatives. She found joy in simple pleasures, whether it was visiting casinos, dining out, or sharing moments through conference calls with her sister Alene and niece Jan to cheer on their favorite NBA teams. FaceTime calls from her sister Marie were also a cherished highlight of her day.

Elvya is preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings: Minneola Kirk Board, Birdie Mae Kirk, Katherine Kirk Roberts, Carrie Kirk Hargo, Mae Fannie Kirk Hamilton, Christine Kirk Rainwater, Buford Kirk, and Jobie L. Kirk, Sr., all of whom she held dear in memory.

She leaves behind a loving legacy comprising her daughter, Vickie Elaine Parks; grandson, Aaron Givens; sisters, Marie Kirk Renfrow and Alene Kirk Dunlap; along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cherished friends, all of whom carry forward her spirit and warmth.

Elvya Lorene Kirk will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the love she gave, the lives she touched, and the faith that guided her. In honoring her memory, we celebrate a life well-lived—a testament to love, devotion, and indomitable spirit.
