Elzada was born January 7, 1936, in Taylorsville, Mississippi, to Emmett and Louise Walton Graves. She received her education through the Jones County Public School System. Elzada was a member of Old Palestine M.B.Church. In her early adult years, she relocated to Sandusky, where she met Joseph Lee Shine. The two were united in holy matrimony December 17, 1961, beginning a devoted union that spanned 52 years.
A dedicated homemaker, Elzada took great pride in caring for her family and home. She found joy and peace in gardening and was well known for her love of beautiful flowers and thriving plants. In addition to her role at home, she was employed by Cedar Point and later became a business owner of the renowned Shine's Grocery Store, which faithfully served the community for 28 years.
In her later years, Elzada resided in Jacksonville, Florida. While she enjoyed spending her last years there, her desire to return to her friends, relatives and church family here in Sandusky never faded. She often spoke fondly of the place she continued to call home.
Elzada Louise Graves Shine peacefully entered Heaven's gates on Monday, January 26, 2026, surrounded by 90 years of love and cherished memories.
Elzada was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Joseph Lee Shine; her parents; and five siblings, Emmett Graves Jr., Daniel E. Graves, Nancy Lee Crosby-Brown, Mattie Lee McKines and Edna Mae McKines.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her son, Ronald L. Shine; daughters, Sharon L. Shine, Valerie Shine, all of Jacksonville, Florida, Wilma J. Phenix of Toledo, and Terry Gaskins of Mansfield; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will forever treasure her presence and love.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Porter's Memorial CME Church, 1722 3rd St, Sandusky, OH 44870. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
