Elzie Dale O'Brien, 67, of Clintonville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife, daughter, and son in the Peyton Hospice House, following a hard fought battle with cancer.
Born February 8, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late John and Martha (Brewer) O'Brien.
Dale was a 1975 graduate of Greenbrier East High School. He worked at Mullican Flooring until its closing. Dale then went to work for the Anthony Correctional Center and then retired from the Denmar Correctional Center. He enjoyed fishing, but the thing that gave him the most joy was spending time with his twin grandsons. Dale was of the Pentecostal faith and attended Ramp Holiness Harvest Tabernacle. Dale loved his little Molly, and she spend as much time as possible at his side.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Daryl Hodges.
Survivors include his devoted and loving wife of 38 years Cassie (Shortridge) O'Brien; one daughter Amanda Butcher (Brad) of Frankford; one son Tony O'Brien (Kim) of San Antonio, Texas; three brothers Chuck O'Brien of Roanoke, Virginia, Donnie O'Brien (Gina) of Gap Mills, and Junior O'Brien (Janette) of Williamson; one sister Brenda Honaker of Caldwell; four grandchildren Camden and Eli Butcher, Sylvie and Bryce O'Brien; and a host of extended family, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Felix Baker officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service from 2 – 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
