Emile Alito Obituary

Emile Alito, Jr., aged 96, born and raised in New Orleans, LA, passed away quietly on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. He grew up in the 7th Ward and graduated from Warren Easton Boys High School Class of '42. After serving time as a radio operator in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Mount McKinley during WWII, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the College of Electrical Engineering at Tulane and a MS from LSU in Electrical Engineering. As a young man, he crisscrossed the country while working for Western Union as a Traveling Technician and later served as Chief Electrical Engineer for the construction of the Kaiser Aluminum Plant in Chalmette as well as employment at various refineries across south Louisiana. He worked many years for Chrysler/Boeing at their Michoud facility as the Cognizant Engineer developing the telemetry system for the Saturn V booster rocket. He also headed up the Electrical Engineering work for the concourses of the Superdome when it was originally constructed. Having visited many other cities around the country in his earlier years, he developed a deep appreciation for the beautiful houses and boulevards of his hometown, New Orleans. He was preceded in death by his wife Katherine Todd Alito, daughter Margaret Clare Alito (River Ridge, LA) and sister Rosemary Alito Swiber and is survived by one brother Robert Alito (LaPlace, LA), and five children: Paul Newman Alito (Round Rock, TX), John Andre Alito (Lake Charles, LA), Mary Therese Alito, (New Orleans, LA), Noelie Susan Alito (Austin, TX), and Eva Marie Alito (New Orleans, LA). He is also survived by one grandchild, Angelle Therese St. Pierre (Portland, OR), and one great-grandchild Elijah Nathan St. Pierre (Penn State University). The family is deeply grateful to the members of St. Rita Parish who ministered Holy Communion to Emile during the last months of his life when he was homebound. Viewing took place on Monday, March 21, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Rita Catholic Church, 2729 Lowerline St., New Orleans followed by a Funeral Mass. He will be laid to rest in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3.

Will miss you Uncle E,
You were much more than an uncle to me, you were my confidant and calming influence during my time of troubled waters. Thank you for your unique stories that will never leave me. RIP

Remembering Emile in my prayers and at the altar. Trusting he's found rest 'where the light of God's face shines'. He was a good friend of my parents. His family & loved ones are especially in my prayers these days
