HAAS, EMILE, JR. "BUD"

Emile "Bud" Haas, Jr., age 86 of Glen Mills, PA, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, in hospice care at Maris Grove where he resided, near to his loving family. Bud formerly resided in Landenberg, PA and Hendersonville, NC.

Bud was the son of Emile Haas, Sr., and Stella (Gorrick) Haas and grew up in Chester and Duryea, PA. After graduating from Chester High School in 1957, he served in the U.S. Marines from 1957 to 1960. His artillery company was assigned to the island of Okinawa for 13 months, during which time they went on military maneuvers to other parts of Asia, including the Philippines and Japan.

Bud graduated from Spring Garden College with an Associate's Degree in 1967, then worked as an engineering designer for 35 years. Over the course of his career, he was a contract employee for various New Castle County corporations in the chemical industry. He was last employed by Delaware Engineering and Design Corp.

He retired in 2002 and he and his wife, Dorothy, moved to Hendersonville, NC, where he was a volunteer for the U.S. National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service. He played saxophone in several local bands, with his favorite being the Hendersonville Swing Band. Bud and Dorothy returned to Delaware County in 2018.

In addition to music and playing saxophone, Bud enjoyed fishing, hiking, artistic painting, and was a lifelong Phillies fan. He was an avid reader, self-educating in the sciences and history, and he enjoyed discovering new wines to pair with his favorite foods.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (McKeown) Haas of Glen Mills, PA; his son, Michael J. Haas (Matthew Blair) of Weare, NH; his daughter, Susan D. (Haas) Brown (Charles) of Blanchard, ME; his grandson, Nathanael D. Brown of Morrisville, PA; his sister, Dolores (Haas) Hubert (Fred) of Ocean View, DE; many nieces and nephews; and his cousins Mary Ann Gorrick of Austin, TX, Anne Gorrick of West Park, NY, Maria Gorrick of Silver Spring, MD, and Ellen (Gorrick) Homoya of Austin, TX.

Services and burial will be private. Because music was such an important part of Bud's life, in lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Wilmington branch of The Music School of Delaware (https://www.musicschoolofdelaware.org/giving.html). Donations may also be made to the Maris Grove Resident Care Fund, https://www.ericksonseniorliving.com/maris-grove/contact
