St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Notre Dame Catholic Church for Emily Marie Bourda, 86, who passed away peacefully at home, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in St. Martinville on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and will continue on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm.

A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am on Saturday.

Fr. Abelardo Gabriel S.V.D. will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Mausoleum.

Emily Marie Bourda was born to the union of Bernard Mitchell, Sr. and Mozella Pierre Mitchell on December 5, 1937, in St. Martinville, Louisiana. She was baptized at a young age at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville, Louisiana, where she is still on the roll and was an active member until her relocation to Pearland, Texas. She was affectionately called and will be remembered as Momma, Maw-Maw, Em, Tee, Tita, Sista, and Nanny.

Her primary educational years were spent in St. Martinville, Louisiana. She was a member of the 1956 graduating class of Carver High School in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. She attended and completed beauty school at Franklin Beauty School of Cosmetology in Houston, Texas.

She married Linton Bourda on June 10, 1961. Their union was blessed with four loving daughters, Mozella, Jacqueline, Linda Jo, and Gladys. They made their home on Knight St. in St. Martinville (Ledoux).

Emily was a dedicated employee of Trinity Catholic School as a cafeteria worker, where her daughters and grandchildren attended school. She retired in May 2000 after 29 years of service.

She leaves to cherish fond memories of her life four daughters, Mozella Bourda, Jacqueline Smith (Jonathan), Linda Jo Raymond (Lyndon, Sr.), and Gladys Nichols (Pe'Tric); grandchildren, Alicia, Destinie (Earl), Dominique (Daniela), Lyndon, Jr., Emily, Jalen, Joshua, Chad, Kade (Katya); great grandchildren, Mashayla, Mylen, Karter, Laikyn, Duke, Londyn, and Jerome, Jr.; one brother, Bernard Mitchell, Jr., (Juanita); a sister-in-law and best friend, Helen Bourda; sister-in-law, Geraline Mitchell; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Emily was preceded in death by her parents Bernard, Sr. and Mozella Mitchell, husband, Linton Bourda, siblings, Georgianna Brown and Raymond Mitchell; brothers-in-law, Louis Brown, Jr., Lloyd Bourda, Joseph Bourda, Melvin Neveu, Sr., and Clarence Williams; and her sisters-in-law, Zenola Mitchell, Bernice Bourda, Mazel Neveu, and Margaret Williams.

Emily has gone to rest and although she is no longer physically with us, her spirit will always be with us. Gone, but will never be forgotten by anyone who knew and loved her.

Pallbearers will be Dominique Carroll, Jalen Smith, Lyndon Raymond, Jr., Joshua Raymond, Dustin Williams, and Earl Ledet.

Honorary pallbearers will be Louis Brown, III, Earl Dundas, Jr., Roland Fontenette, Kendall Guidry, Kyle Guidry, Tyler Guidry, Walter Mercier, Bernard Mitchell, Jr., Bernard Mitchell, III, Carl Mitchell, Clayton Mitchell, Sr., Clayton Mitchell, Jr., Jonathan Mitchell, Lester Mitchell, Quinton Mitchell, Melvin Neveu, Jr., Pe'Tric Nichols, Terrence Phillips, Lyndon Raymond, Sr., Vincent Sam, Joseph Skipper, Jonathan Smith, Jared Williams, Randell Williams, and Roderick Williams.
