Emily P. Garton
September 30, 1933 - December 24, 2025
Emily Pearl Garton, age 92, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on December 24th, 2025 while residing at Shawano Place in Shawano, Wisconsin.
Emily was born on September 30th, 1933 in
Mattoon, Wisconsin. She was the youngest of 8 children born to Ora (Oosterhuis) and Charles Manley Shelley. After graduating from Mattoon High School in 1951, Emily traveled to Washington D.C with her sister Alice where she worked for a year. Emily returned to Shawano where she met and was united in marriage to Martin J. Zoglmann. They were blessed with five daughters.
Emily started her nursing career at the "old" Shawano Hospital and later the Marsh Clinic until 1972 when they moved to Eau Claire. It was there that Emily received her Nursing degree. Emily was employed at Luther Hospital where she worked in Pediatrics and Oncology. Emily ended her nursing career at UW Health-EC Family Clinic.
Emily was united in marriage to Donald Garton in June of 1985. Upon her retirement they moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas to escape the Wisconsin winters and to enjoy her passion for golf. In 2014 they returned to Eau Claire to be with family.
Emily always had a smile for everyone. She was an energetic and outgoing person. In addition to raising 5 active daughters she worked fulltime, gardened, canned, sewed countless dresses and outfits for all her daughter's occasions, and never missed their concerts, plays or sporting events. Being active, getting involved and her "can do" attitude are just a few of her legacies. She will forever be remembered for her Momism; "say something nice!"
Emily enjoyed many activities throughout her life; softball, bowling, golfing, boating, traveling, curling, square dancing, even attempted roller blading (that didn't end well). Emily really enjoyed being around people.
Emily's faith was important to her and she encouraged her family to be steadfast in their faith as well.
Emily is survived by her daughters; Terri Jansen (Bob) - Shawano, Julie Feivor (Dave) - Gillett, Jayne Hayden (Greg) - Elk Mound, Jill Waltermann (John) - Elk Mound, and Patti McLaughlin (Mick) - Eau Claire.
Eight grandchildren; Tony Feivor-Shawano, Brianna Rodrigez-Meqon, Chase Feivor-Alexandria, Gabriel Hayden-Eau Claire, Heidi Davis (Cal)-Elk Mound, Shayne McLaughlin-Chippewa Falls, Aarin McLaughlin-Eau Claire, Tye McLaughlin-Fall Creek. Fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grand daughter. As well ten nieces and three nephews.
Emily is preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, her husbands Martin Zoglmann and Donald Garton and her granddaughter Kimberly (nee Loomis) Davis.
Funeral service for Emily will take place at 11 am on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Chapel Heights United Methodist Church, 300 E. Hamilton Avenue,
Eau Claire, WI 54701. A lunch will take place at the church immediately following the service. There will be a visitation at the church that day from 10 am until the time of service. Burial in the Springbrook Cemetery in Elk Mound, Wisconsin will take at 2 pm later that afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Humane Society, Bob's House of Dogs and the Chapel Heights Food Pantry.
