On Friday, November 7, 2025, as the sun was setting, Emily Ann Schott transitioned on to the next big adventure. At her death, she was 76 years old and was surrounded by love with her family at home in Boise, Idaho.

Emily was born on Sunday, April 10, 1949, to Joyce Enid Kuhnhausen and Frederick Lester Hill in Portland, Oregon.

For those who had the joy of knowing Emily, she was one of the kindest individuals that they would meet. Emily always said that the “paradox of life is that the smallest gestures of kindness are the most important,” and Emily lived her life that way.

She loved to do many things: mushroom hunting, salmon fishing, crabbing, cooking, sewing and designing clothes, rock hounding, tennis and being creative in just about every way imaginable. Above all else, she loved when her family got together to share a meal or explore the outdoors.

Emily met her life-long husband and love, Peter Schott, while working together in the Sun Valley Lodge. There they first began their adventures of skiing, fishing, and together enjoying the beauty that this earth offers. They shared one another in marriage for 53 years, playing, adventuring, caring and supporting one another until her last day.

While living in Boise, Idaho, together with Peter, she co-owned restaurants and did so with every ounce of dedication. As a team, they brought Boise, Peter Schott’s Restaurant- one of the area’s founding exquisite dining experiences. Emily was an artist in the kitchen and easily replaced three chefs when making hors d’oeuvre trays for caterings at their restaurant. Emily was the spirit of their restaurants, where her unique energy and care brought the element of presence to the dining room and private parties. When Emily arrived at the restaurant, everyone gave a sigh of relief. She was capable, and she was always kind in any direction she gave.

Most of all, Emily dedicated her life to her family, encouraging her kids and grandkids to pursue their dreams and interests without hesitation. She and Peter, together with their family and friends, shared their deep appreciation of nature by pausing and taking note of nature like alpine sunsets, vast fields of purple camas lilies, morel mushroom clusters in burned forests and sand dollars at low tide along the Oregon Coast at Rockaway Beach. Emily will be remembered for her infinite kindness, her smiley hellos to people walking by, her contagious laugh, her joy of dancing and music and her love for festively sharing delicious food with her friends and family.

She is survived by her husband, Peter; her children Peter with Carlotta, Kelly with Aaron and Heidi with Jaya, and her five grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Solomon, Grace, James, Nitai, and Tulsi.

She also leaves behind her beloved sister Claudia with Gail, her brother Marty, and nieces and nephew Mariah, Rhiannon and Ron, and their mom Nancy.

In lieu of flowers: Because her kindness touched so many, her family asks those wishing to remember her to donate to City of Good, a Boise nonprofit working to ensure no one in the community goes hungry: cityofgood.com
