Emily R. Smith, age 99, of Sebewaing, passed away at Country Gardens Assisted Living in Pigeon on December 7, 2025.

Emily was born in Croswell on June 12, 1926, to Peter and Mary (Hartman) Reige. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Sebewaing through the 8th grade. She married Louis Allen Smith on March 6, 1950 in Angola, Indiana. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1999. During WWII, she worked for Sebewaing Industries, then worked a bit for the Log Cabin Restaurant as a waitress, worked the poll booths during elections and for Best Fish Hooks in Sebewaing. Emily enjoyed reading, ballroom dancing, working puzzles, bird watching, crocheting, taught Sunday school, was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing where she was a greeter and on the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML).

Emily is survived by her 3 sons: Arthur (Cindy) Smith of Saginaw, Timothy Smith of Sebewaing and Peter (Jodi) Smith of Sebewaing; grandchildren: Amy Sturm, Sarah Brunet, Jessica (Brett) Parrish, Joshua Smith, Kathleen (Brandon) Wood, Andrew (Erin Brandt) Smith, Annette Kata, Louis Smith and Caleb (Isabella) Smith; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.

Emily is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law, Deborah Smith; siblings: Lydia Dortman, David Reige, Hannah Sauers, Pete Reige, Henry Reige, Willy Reige and Emma Schneider.

Visitation and service will be Thursday, December 11, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Visitation will begin at 12pm until the time of service at 1pm. Pastor Michael Boyer will be officiating. Burial will be private in the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to Christ the King Lutheran School or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
