Emily Winters Obituary

Emily L. Winters, age 94, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Wisconsin Rapids Health Services.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of service. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Nekoosa, WI.
Emily was born on October 25, 1930, in the Town of Armenia to Henry and Leona (Fierke) Schmidt. She grew up on her family farm and attended grade school at Violet Lawn, which was a one room schoolhouse in Juneau Couty. Emily married Bernard LaVere Winters on December 28, 1957, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Nekoosa. She worked in the finishing room at the Nekoosa Edwards Paper Mill before dedicating herself to being a homemaker.
Emily was a faithful member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and was a part of the Dorcas Circle. She enjoyed reading, gardening both vegetables and flowers, working on crossword puzzles, embroidery, cooking, baking and trying new recipes. Emily cherished spending time with her family and friends. She also had a special place in her heart for children.
Emily is survived by her daughters, Terri (Frank) Powell, Amy (Dan) Graber, and Patrice (Rick) Morgan; grandchildren, Michael Powell, Liz Powell, Jenna Powell, Rick Morgan, and Katie Morgan; sisters-in-law, June Siler and Gwen Hresil; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard LaVere Winters; parents, Henry and Leona Schmidt; siblings, Herbert (Tootsie) Schmidt, Fred (Louise) Schmidt, Arthur Schmidt, Ed (Ardeen) Schmidt, Robert (Carol) Schmidt, Dora (Emil) Manz, Nora (George) Noll, and Della (Albert) Briski; and brother-in-law, Ed Hresil.
