Emma Joyce Moore, 90, gained her heavenly wings on Friday, January 23, 2026, at The Cedars Rehab Center in McPherson, KS with family by her side.
Joyce was born at the family farm north of Rosston, OK to James & Gladys (Grozinger) Thomas on July 22, 1935. She graduated from Rosston High School in 1953 and attended Phillips University in Enid, OK for three years. Her last year in college, she transferred to Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK and received her degree in Education.
On February 14, 1957, Joyce was united in marriage to Vernon Moore in Alva, OK and celebrated 60 years together. They were both educators and involved in both their church and community activities.
Survivors include: sons, Jay (Carolyn) Moore of Riverside, MO and John Moore of Canon City, CO; daughter, Sherri (David) Haxton of McPherson, KS; four grandchildren, Jade (Troy) Gilpin, Heather Haxton, Derek (Jessica) Moore & Dane Moore; two great-grandchildren, Cameron & Addison Gilpin; sister-in-law, Barbara Moore; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James & Gladys Thomas; husband, Vernon Moore; brother, Jim Thomas; brother-in-law, Vearl Moore; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Melvin & Harriet Moore and Emery & Vivian Graves.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 29, at the First Christian Church in McPherson, KS with Rev. Lynn Scott officiating.
