Emmett R. Greely, 92, of Vermilion, peacefully passed with his wife by his side on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Mercy New Life Hospice after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 24, 1933, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and had been a resident of Vermilion for the past 62 years, moving there from Pittsburgh, PA.
Emmett proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean war. The knowledge and discipline he gained during his service became the foundation of his lifelong career in aviation. He worked as a Supervisor and Manager for the Federal Aviation Administration for starting his career at the Greater Pittsburgh Airport and transferring to the Oberlin Center where he retired.
He was a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 397, AMVETS Post 22, and the Masonic Temple. An avid golfer and bowler, Emmett was also a longtime member and former president of the Oberlin Golf Club. His military service remained an influential part of his life, and he took great pride in the lessons and friendships formed during that time.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Gloria (née Stiffler) Greely of Vermilion; their children, Elizabeth Ann (Doug) Kishman, Emmett (Melissa) Greely, and Lori Greely; grandchildren, Jennifer Albrethsen, Paul Kishman, Lauren Alberici, Katherine Greely, Emily Greely, Alaina Lanni, and Ashlee McGuire; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo M. and Clara E. (née Trout) Greely, and his brother, Paul Greely.
Private graveside services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion, where Military Honors will be presented.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Mercy Health New Life Hospice by Compassus, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
