EMMIT PAUL RAINES, 85, of Oakwood, VA, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at his home following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late David Ferrell and Vercie Mae (Deel) Raines. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and served in the United States Army. He was a former employee of Island Creek Coal Company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis (McVay) Raines; brother Steve Raines, sister Phyllis Jean Hager.

Those left to cherish his memory include Stepson: Donald Lee (Heather) Rice Jr of Saltville, VA and children, Jacob Rice of Saltville, VA, and Courtney Rice (Daniel) Eames of Southern Pines, NC, and son Emmett; his daughter, Teresa (Troy) Daugherty of Dandridge, TN; Grandson: Dustin Daugherty and girlfriend, Mycah of Dandridge, TN; Grandson: Lane Daugherty and granddaughters: Ryanna and Myla Mullins; Daughter: Chastity (Tyler) Cooper and grandsons: Hunter and Gunner Cooper of Hurley, VA; Brother: Lonnie (Judy) Raines of Stokesdale, NC; Sisters: Juanita "Tootie" Raines of Lexington, KY, Charlene Kidd of Tazewell, VA.

Also, survived by several nieces and nephews.

Special Thanks to special friend Jean Leonard, Allen and Teresa Lester, Jason and Mandy Ward and Caris Health Care's Tamara, Brittany and Tara.

Graveside Services for EMMIT PAUL RAINES will be conducted Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA, with Brian Moore officiating with burial to follow.

Active Pallbearers will be family and friends.
