Emmitt "Snookie" Gunn Jr.

Mr. Emmitt Gunn, Jr., 91, of Youngstown, transitioned from this life to his eternal home on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Briarfield Manor with his family at his side.
Mr. Gunn, affectionately known as "Snookie", was born May 10, 1934 in Roanoke, Alabama, a son of Emmitt Sr. and Ola Mae Phillips Gunn. He had been employed with U. S. Steel Corporaton, retiring after over 20 years of service. He was a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church, its male chorus, trustee ministry and was an all-around church worker. He was also a member of Masons. "Snookie" enjoyed gardening both vegetable and flowers, western movies, was a handyman who accomplished small construction projects.
He leaves to mourn his passing, but to celebrate his life and legacy, his sister, Nancy Ruth Houston of Roanoke, Alabama, his longtime companion, Ernestine Farris; a bonus daughter, Nicole B. both of Campbell; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie; and siblings, Willie Mae Houston, Lela Jackson, Cornelia Gunn and Dollie Ellis.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 22, 2025 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Road, Youngstown. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Tod Homestead Cemetery. Pastor Ernest Ellis will officiate.
