Equilla Johnson White (AkA "Mimi") Equilla Johnson White was born on January 30, 1953, in New Orleans, Louisiana, she passed away on August 21, 2024 in Houston, Tx Equilla has left us to join the ultimate heavenly fashion show, where she's no doubt strutting her stuff right now. She was the youngest of six girls and the beloved daughter of the late Helen L. Misner and Herman Johnson. Equilla is now reunited with her sisters, the late Varol Finnie, Dorothy Finnie, and Lavonzell Finnie, who are surely welcoming her with open arms. Equilla was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Equilla gave her life to Christ and was Baptized at an early age at Greater Pleasant Green Baptist Church, Equilla's faith was strong. She received her education in the New Orleans public school system, attending McDonogh 24 Elementary, Alfred C. Priestly Junior High, and Walter L. Cohn High School. Equilla built a fulfilling career in social services, working at Grace House of New Orleans and Lindy's Place, where her vibrant personality could cheer up the room. In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina, she made the wise decision to bring her sparkle to Houston, Texas, where she continued her compassionate work as a counselor at a nonprofit women and children's shelter. Equilla was a long time member of a 12 Step Spiritual Program, she was always willing to assist new comers in the program. Equilla freely shared her life experiences, her strengths and weaknesses with whomever needed hope. Equilla was a member New Faith Baptist Church (Houston, Tx) she was also a member of Irene Matthews Family Prayerline and a member of Overcomer's Ministries Prayerline and Bible study. Equilla will be deeply missed, not just for her unforgettable sense of humor and her knack for making everyone feel like family, but also for the way she could light up a room just by walking into it. Her legacy of the Love of God, Faith, joy, and fashion advice (whether you asked for it or not) will live on in the many lives she touched. Equilla was preceded in death by her loving mother Helen Misner Finnie Johnson, father Herman Johnson, grandmother Odile Johnson, grandmother Ophelia Casey, grandfathers, sisters Varol Finnie, Dorothy Finnie, Lavonzell Finnie, grandson Julian Marley Hammonds; she leaves to cherish her devoted daughters Diandra Chess, Kenya Johnson- Batiste (son in law George Batiste), Brenell Phillips; surviving sisters:Debra F. I will alway remember and cherish the sweet loving and kind spirt of "Quilla". She was a phenomenal person even when life gave her lemons; she not only made the best lemonade but she cultivated a lemon grove. Rest Well until we meet at Jesus' feet.
