Eric Lee Brown, age 55, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 9, 2026, at his home.
Eric was born on May 30, 1970, in Elyria, Ohio, to Richard R. and Sue (Curlis) Brown. Eric is survived by his mother, Sue Brown of Upper Sandusky, two sons, Wade Brown of Columbus, Cole Brown of Mt. Vernon, and brother Tim (Andrea) Brown of Westlake. Eric was once married to Tonia Pever on April 10, 2004, and she survives in Mt. Vernon.
Eric was preceded in death by his father, Richard Brown.
Eric graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1988 and then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in 1991, his master’s degree from Ashland University in 1993, and then his doctorate from Ohio University in 2004. Eric worked as an educator for over 33 years and worked in the Mt. Vernon public school system for 20 years, currently as the Director of Elementary Curriculum, and formerly as the principal of East Elementary, Twin Oak Elementary, and Columbia Elementary.
For hobbies, Eric enjoyed studying US history, especially reading about the Civil War, and tracing his own family’s genealogy as far back as the 1600’s. Eric was also an animal lover; he had many cats and dogs over the years, including his cat Maui and his beagle Shiloh. Eric especially loved spending time with his sons, whether that was traveling to amusement parks to find the best roller coasters, trips to Gettysburg to tour the museum and battlegrounds, playing tennis with his sons, or watching the Browns and OSU games together.
Public visitations for Eric Brown will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the Snyder Funeral Homes Lasater Chapel, located at 11337 Upper Gilchrist Rd., Mt. Vernon, OH 43050.
A private burial will be held at a later date, at Oak Hill Cemetery, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
