Eric was the beloved husband of Karina (Doane) Carlson. Born in Manchester, he was the cherished son of Evelyn (Wayland) Flaherty. He was raised in Tolland and Willington and graduated from Bolton High School. Since childhood Eric had always had a special bond with his dogs. Even after 40 years, Greylan, his childhood companion still held a special place in his heart. It was a space he shared with his more recent companions Chase, and now Savannah.
An avid reader, Eric enjoyed sci-fi and fantasy, classic mythology, mystery and many other genres, owning an extensive collection of books. His earliest memories involve attending stock car racing with his mother up and down the east coast. It was a passion he continued through adulthood.. He took pride in his work at Heavy's Automotive, and truly enjoyed the company of his coworkers. He was appreciated not only for his skills but also for his sense of humor and dedication.
Above all, Eric loved his family deeply. He leaves behind his loving wife Karina; his daughter Rose Carlson of Glastonbury; and his stepson Alex Martineau of Glastonbury. He is also survived by his mother Evelyn and her husband Ed Jolly; his uncle Warren Wayland and his wife Dianne of Vermont; his nieces and nephews, Laura and Ali Danielson of Indiana, and John, Avery, and Tyler Salonia of Glastonbury; and close family friends, Lynn Janczak of Hartford and Lillian, Krystal, and Morgan Climan of Tolland.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, June 7th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. To honor Eric's vibrant personality and love for life, his family requests those attending services to wear a Hawaiian shirt or other colorful attire. I just found out today (6/19/25) about Eric´s passing when I stopped into Heavy´s. I am shocked and saddened.
I am so sorry for your loss. Eric touched many lives. I always looked forward to talking to him when I brought my car in for service.
