Eric Cook, a symbol of love and selflessness, departed this world on April 2, 2024, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness to inspire everyone acquainted with him. Born on December 7, 1971, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, Eric's life was characterized by an indomitable spirit and boundless generosity of heart.
Born to Donnie and Karen Cook, Eric was enveloped in the warmth and resilience of his devoted family. He was a beloved brother to Donnie Cook Jr., and cherished son, Koty Michael Cook. His niece Sarah (Trevor Kerin) Zahnd, along with his brother-in-law James Zahnd, also played significant roles in Eric's tightly knit family circle. Though he mourned the loss of his sister Marilyn Cook, and his brothers Joel Daly Johnson and Bobby Ray Cook, their memories continued to guide him.
Eric's capacity to touch lives was boundless; Eric was a friend to everyone he met. His fervor for the Chicago Cubs and Bears was only outshined by his love for his family and friends. Eric's ability to maintain numerous childhood friendships, too many to name, speaks volumes about his character. He was a man who valued loyalty and companionship, and his friends knew they could always count on him for a good laugh, a shoulder to lean on, or a partner in crime at the pool table. His knack for shooting pool was just one of the many ways he connected with people, sharing stories and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
He also had a profound appreciation for nature, often finding solace and joy in the simple pleasure of sitting by the lake, watching birds, deer, and squirrels, and reveling in the tranquility of the natural world.
His family described him as a fighter-generous, protective, helpful, and affectionate. Eric's essence was his steadfastness in adversity, always with a smile. Renowned for his encouragement and support.
The words loving, selfless, and kind don't just describe Eric; they were the principles by which he lived daily. He navigated life with a heart always ready to offer more than to receive, showcasing the true depth of his character.
In paying tribute to Eric Cook, let's focus not on the gap he leaves but on living up to the virtues he embodied. Let's be advocates for our beliefs, guardians for the vulnerable, supporters to strangers, and loving individuals who enhance our communities. By doing so, Eric's influence will persist, guiding us in our own lives with love and kindness as our guide.
Goodbye to Eric, a genuine gentleman and friend, whose existence was a powerful example of positivity and the incredible resilience of the human spirit. May we all advance the legacy of his goodness, lighting up the world with our actions just as he did with ease.
