Eric DeHart was a true jewel and was a bright light from a very young age. He excelled at Surfing, all team sports, and was an exceptional golfer. Eric had a competitive fire, fighting hard to win every point and every game.
Eric was always fun to be around. He was outrageous and bold and could be a one man riot. He spent a great deal of time trying to figure out how to climb the massive sign structure of the Isaiah D Hart bridge to add an "E." His quick wit, keen eye, and absurd sense of humor kept everyone on their toes.
His love of the Gators was deep - He used to usher games at Florida Field as a young man, and those Saturdays were an all day party starting early in the morning on the road trip down to Gainesville and continued to the wee hours once back in Jax.
Eric was completely devoted to his friends; The number of deep friends he had attests to that fact. He would drop everything and travel thousands of miles to help friends who needed it or were in bad health. He was as good a friend as you could ever find in this world.
I knew Eric from a young age, and he and I did literally everything together. We would always amuse ourselves talking about crazy stories of things we had done, and remember our good friends who left before us. He always honored his friends who had passed by recounting their stories.
My condolences to his family and his friends who are missing him now. He was a huge bright light in all of our lives.
Eric, my brother, I count as a blessing that you were such a big part of my life and I will miss you until the day I'm called home.

Eric´s passing comes as a total shock, and I cannot stop thinking about his wife, Nancy, whom I adore! Prayers that the Lord holds her close during this unimaginable season of grief, that she be given the strength and coping skills to handle this tragedy moving forward in her life! I pray that she realizes she does not have to endure this alone; that there are so many of us who love her, will always be there for her and are grieving with her.
