Mt. Taylor Funerals & CremationsEric Joseph Gonzales, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on March 16, 2026, in Grants, New Mexico, the very place where he was born on August 28, 1981. His life, though marked by challenges, radiated through the warmth and love he shared with those around him.
Eric was a dedicated professional, having worked as an HVAC technician with Heating and Cooling until health reasons compelled him to step away from his career. Certified in his trade, he poured passion and skill into his work.
Those who knew Eric remember him fondly for the simple joys that enriched his days. His adventurous spirit came alive on drives up Mt. Taylor, where hiking the trails and playing with his beloved dogs brought him peace and happiness. He treasured moments of connection and fun, especially when hiding Easter eggs and delighting his nephews and nieces with gifts and laughter. Camping, fishing, hunting, and hiking were more than hobbies; they were expressions of his love for nature and life’s quiet pleasures. Music and family companionship were constants that kept his heart warm even during the tougher times.
Eric leaves behind a strong circle of loving family who carry forward his memory with tenderness and pride. His devoted parents, Abelicio and Debi Gonzales, stand firm in their love for their son. His siblings, Abelicio Gonzales, along with his wife Laura, and Amanda Valdez, with her husband Jake, are among those who will cherish every memory of Eric’s kindness and gentle soul. He was a proud uncle to Manuel Gonzales, Kasen Betts, and Adam Gonzales, and his nieces Mia and Abree Valdez and Abby Gonzales, all of whom were touched by his playful spirit and generous heart. The extended family of many aunts, uncles, and cousins also remain close in spirit, holding onto the bonds that Eric treasured deeply.
Eric’s legacy is also remembered alongside those dear to him who have passed before: his Grandma Mary Gonzales; Nana and Tata, Simplicio and Lucy Martinez; uncles Telesfor Sonny, Tony and Fred Gonzales; aunts Mary Ellen Brito and Rosalie Marquez; and cousins Cameron Edmunson, Stephanie Martinez, Danny, and Andrea Gonzales. Their memories continue to live on in the stories shared and the love carried forward.
Eric Joseph Gonzales lived a life that, despite its trials, was rich with love, laughter, and the simple wonders of the world he so dearly appreciated. His spirit endures in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him. Though he has left this earthly realm, the trails he walked, the songs he loved, and the family he cherished remain eternal testaments to a life well lived and deeply loved.
Services will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026, at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Grants, New Mexico. Rosary to start at 10:30 am followed by Mass at 11:00am.
